Counseling


If you are unsure whether you qualify for licensure, please review the requirements to evaluate your compliance.  Agency staff and credentialing committees cannot pre-approve any part of the application including curriculum or specific documentation.

Please review Article 5 of the Board's rules for counseling licensure requirements.

Read the instructions carefully and use the checklist at the end of the application to be sure you have completed all required areas and included all required documentation.

If you cannot print any application or form please call (602) 542-1864 and leave your name, address and the form or application you need.

A fingerprint card or a fingerprint clearance card are required with every application.  If you need a fingerprint card and instructions please call the Board at 602-542-1882 and leave your name and address to have them mailed to you.

Your fingerprints are for a background check only and will not result in the issuance of a clearance card.  You must contact DPS for information regarding the process to obtain a clearance card.

Testing Information

Applicants for Licensed Associate Counselor or Licensed Professional Counselor are required to provide a passing score on an exam given by one of the following approved organizations:

  • National Board of Certified Counselors

  • Commission on Rehabilitation Certification

  • National Academy of Certified Mental Health Counselors

In order to register to take an exam, you must be either an applicant of the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners or an applicant for national certification.

Ethical Information

Board rules hold certified behavioral health professionals responsible for following the ethical code of their profession.   For ethical information contact ACA now.
